FMOCR, new friends and a rescue
20 Autumn 559

(RL: v404 2005-08-30)

Today I had the chance to help Malbec try for a strange stone during a FMOCR. We had a short amount of time so we headed out to OC1 and started clearing.

We were still recruiting the people we needed to do it but we really needed to push forward to clear some of the areas. We went into OC2 and OC3 clearing and retreating and healing as more and more people showed up to help.

We seemed to be doing pretty good. We were able to make some really good advances and cleared all the way to OC3 and prepared to enter OC4 with about 10 minutes to before midnight. Cutting it pretty close we pushed forward.

We made our first big attempt to enter OC4 and only made it about half way to the pit before most of our party was low or fallen. We chained and ran for the exit.

We pushed in again and again making more and more progress. Right before midnight a group made a push for the pit area to try and clear and hold. There was some confusion and they fell without the support of healers. Some people called "out" and we headed back with our group divided and some of our strong healers fallen. While trying to do a quick heal for one last push in our time ran out with the strike of midnight.

Even though the FMOCR failed I had a great time. I have not been involved in an attempt to get the stone in many years. I was glad I could help out. Hopefully we will have another chance to get the stone again soon. I think we could have been successful on this one if we had just a little more time to plan and a few more people to help out. It was very close at the end.

After we finished the FMOCR I decided I needed to gather some coins for the library. I took the normal coin whoring route heading into the NWF and found a few people exploring the area. Since just running around coin whoring did not sound like fun I decided to ask if they needed any help. We spent some time clearing the NWF and I hope I was able to help them learn a few things about the area. At one point be became overwhelmed by the spawn rates and lost our healer. We went back to town and healed up. I suggested that we try for a run in the New Bear Caves. The NBC is a lot easier to handle as the spawns are not as crazy. While the coins would not be as good the experience they should earn from the kills and vanqs would be much better than NWF. We did really well in the bear caves killing many bears and having some fun. Just as we were about to leave we came across a Cinder Bear. This was a great find and I setup so everyone could get in a tag. Unfortunally the bear had different plans. He turned on one of my new friends and brought him down. The damage was beyond the ability of our healer so I grabbed up my chain and we started for town. We were near the east exit of NBC so we ran that way. Once again our fortune was not so good. The area around the exit was heavy with bears and other critters and all the other members of the party were soon fallen. I managed to get everyone on a chain and made a run for the exit. I was able to get out without getting trapped and we were soon in town calling for healers. Even with the not so grand ending the trip was great fun for me. Hopefully my new friends enjoyed it as well.

I was heading to the library and got a call for assistance in the Foothills. Elenis Reyav had fallen and Arlana did not have the PF required to exit. Since I myself have been fallen many times in the area and rescued, I thought I should return the favor. I made my way to Camp Dread through the portal and as I entered I senced that Arlana had fallen as well. Now I did not have anyone to report on the condition of the area I decided to still take a chance on a chain rescue. I cleared out the a/spiders in the area so I could have a fast retreat if I need. I did a quick entrance to check and found the area to be crowded with Wendies. I cleared a few and exited. I equiped my chain and made a run for it. I entered the area and waited in the south for the wendies to start coming too my hopefully clearing the area around the fallen. I ran north and found Elenis Reyav fallen right by the cave entrance and got my chain on him. The area was thick with Wendies so i decided I should get him out and return to look for Arlana. Once back through the PF to the south Elenis Reyav informed me that Arlana was fallen just inside the cave area and should be an easy reach. I gathered my chain up again and made a run for it. Getting trapped a couple of times and having to fight my way out I made it into the cave and found Arlana. Quickly using my chain I made a run for the exit and to the PF and luckly did not get trapped again. I got E on my chain and made my way back to town having a fun and successful rescue. I was glad I could be of assistance.
